writing

All my life I have kept journals, created collages, wrote poems and short stories and dreamed of writing a book. However, I didn’t do anything to make it actually happen. November 2012 I found NaNoWriMo and joined. The goal is to write 50,000 words in 30 days. NO EDITING, just WRITE! And that is when the light bulb went off in my head, every time in the past I would try and write I wound up editing as I went a long and lost the creative flow. So for once in my life I followed instructions, and won by reaching the target of 50,000 words in 30 days.

Now I have a story and I think it will be a good one too. The last few months have been taking time to put it into a better order, change a couple characters, add and remove plots.  Once I start writing the characters just take over which tends to alter what I had originally planned but if I listen to the little voices in my head and not the editor, the story gets better and better, at least on the days when I don’t think it sucks!

I would never have gotten this far without taking time to figure out what it is I really want to do in life and talked to others who had already succeeded at the same thing.  Support of friends and family who let me bounce ideas off them, edit my very rough ROUGH draft, taking my granddaughter for a few hours here and there, and of course the Yoda ear buds to drown out the real world while I spend some time in make believe land.
